On 7 June 2013 the Cultural Heritage Prize of the Year was awarded at the newly opened renovation centre of wooden architecture “Wooden Riga” in Grīziņkalns (12 Krāsotāju   Street). On 17 May 2013 the institute’s leading researcher Daina Lāce delivers a public lecture “Riga City Architect Johann Daniel Felsko” at Daugavpils University, commemorating his 200th anniversary this autumn.

In May 2013, the guidebook The Building of the Latvian National Museum of Art is published in the series Monuments of Art and Architecture (text: Elita Grosmane, layout: Ivo Simsons). The publication has also Latvian and Russian versions.

On 28 March 2013, opening of the magazine Mākslas Vēsture un Teorija / Art History and Theory 2013/16 (editor-in-chief Elita Grosmane) is organised at the Institute; the issue contains several articles commemorating the 260th anniversary of Michał Jan Borch.

On 24 April 2013 Eduards Kļaviņš and Stella Pelše visit Daugavpils to attend the opening of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center (DMRAC). As advisory board members they inspect the expositions – Rothko Sector with six original paintings as well as other exhibitions (DMRAC collection, exhibitions of works by Peter Griffin, Solomon Gershov, Pēteris Martinsons and exhibition of Latgale artists). Eduards Kļaviņš also participates in the discussion “Rothko’s Coming Home: Opportunities and Challenges” organized in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Latvia, telling about Rothko in the context of Latvian art.

On 24 March 2013 Stella Pelše delivers a public lecture “Art Criticism in Soviet Latvia: Theory, Terminology and Judgement” at Bildmuseet contemporary art museum in Umeå, Sweden. The lecture is organised in connection with the exhibition “Soviet Mythology in Latvian Art” (27.01.13.–21.04.13.)  curated by Elita Ansone and presenting a selection of Soviet-period works from Latvian National Museum of Art.

On 7 March 2013 Academic Readings of the Latvian Academy of Sciences take place at Riga Latvian Society house at 13 Merķeļa Street. Daina Lāce presents a paper “Pirmais Rīgas pilsētas arhitekts Felsko: Inovācijas un tradīcijas” / “First Riga City Architect Felsko: Innovations and Traditions”.
